Big 4 Koala Shores Holiday Park…. Port Stephens. 2

So, when I found out my sons last soccer game of the season was up at Port Stephens I took the opportunity to find a place to camp and come across the Koala Shores Holiday Park it look enticing and it was literally less then a kilometre away from the soccer ground… bonus!!!

The Koala Shores Holiday Park is located right on the waterfront in Lemon Tree Passage. For boating and kayaking enthusiasts it is perfect, as the Holiday Park has complete access to the water via a boat ramp and at high tide the waters laps up to the park edge. One of my favourite things to do was just to chill out on the waters edge or sit on the jetty watching the boats float by and the fisherman casting their lines out, hopeful to catch a feed for dinner.

The park seems to cater for all types of accommodation needs. Cabins of all sizes are dotted throughout the park, and if you are a caravan or tent camper there is plenty of powered spots available both on the waters edge and set back, close to the amenities. Some sites are also available with ensuites! If you don’t want to cook at your site there is a bbq area and a reasonably stocked camp kitchen to use as well.

Now to the important information…what the kids always want to know when I book a caravan park is what there is for them to do… “Is there a pool mum?” is generally the first question I am asked. Yes, there is a pool, jumping pillow, put put golf, tennis court and two playgrounds! and also plenty of park to explore on their bikes and scooters. ( on that note: the Mallabula sports complex which is just down the road also has a pool, bmx track and skate park) Also for the kids, and parents, there is a coffee shop which also sells some ice creams and lollies for when you want a well deserved snack around the pool.

The natural attraction of the Koala Shores Holiday Park isn’t just the gorgeous water that can be seen but also the fact that it borders some amazing bushland and if you are lucky you might be able to spot some Koalas. The trail that begins at the park winds its way along the water’s edge all the way to the marina at Lemon Tree Passage, where there is a playground for the kids and a variety of shops and cafes to browse. Unfortunately we didn’t spot any Koalas but we did find a couple of Geocaches,( what are Geocaches?? click here to find out!) hopefully you may be luckier then us a find a Koala!

Overall our stay at Koala Shores Holiday Park was lovely, it had enough to keep the kids busy so I could relax and finish my book but is also close to other attractions in Port Stephens if we had wanted to explore more.

What: Big 4 Koala Shores Holiday Park, Port Stephens

Where: 2 Oyster Farm RdLemon Tree Passage NSW 2319

How Much: $150 for 2 ch / 2 ad Powered site 2 nights. October 2020

Need to know: Check out the holiday parks website for any Covid notifications, Prices have a minimum of two adults and two children and a two night minimum ~ probably the only thing that I didn’t like about the park…, Sites and reasonably spaced out although during peak seasons I am guessing that it would be full to capacity, there is a Coles close by if you need some extra supplies, the water front sites do cost more but to be honest it didn’t bother my to be back near the amenities because it wasn’t to far to walk down, get up early to check out the sunrise from the jetty and see the sunset from the same spot!

Port Stephens is lovely and this caravan park looks like its perfectly situated. It annoys me too how some places have a 2 night minimum on a weekend – I get it and understand why, but at the same time, well…

What a win that was for the family. Well-done. Pretty sure that was where my niece and friends stayed over the recent school hols.
