As I sit here writing this post, I have the Winter Olympics 2018 on the TV. We have stayed up late to watch events, we have cheered on the Aussies, we constantly talk about it over dinner (to the disinterest of one family member!) and we have made a goal to try to go to, if not the next Winter Olympics, then at least one in our lifetime.
But why do we love the snow, what pulls us back year after year to enjoy skiing in Australia and overseas? ( you can see past posts on our love for the snow here, here, here and here!)
You are out in Nature, in the fresh air of the mountains!
There is nothing better then breathing in the fresh air of the snowy mountains. It is cool, fresh and so clean. With no pollution from the city it hits your lungs and clears away all the bad stuff. And the Views!! On a clear day from the top of a mountain, if you look out beyond the ski field, all you can see is the vastness of the mountains, and they are to die for. It doesn’t matter where you are skiing, the view will never disappoint, it is nature at its best.
Its an awesome family activity!
We ( well most of us!) love going to the snow as a family. We love the time we have together, skiing and playing together. There is nothing better then at the end of the day, sharing stories of what we got up to on the slopes. Skiing in the snow also gives us the opportunity to work together to improve our skiing, we encourage and praise each other while on the slopes and celebrate our achievements together.
Everyone is so friendly!
Everyone at the snow is there for one thing… a good time. Its doesn’t matter what you are wearing, it doesn’t matter how you Ski / Snowboard or Toboggan, it doesn’t matter if it’s your first time or your 100th everyone is friendly. I have had some great chats while on a chairlift, everyone wants to know where you are from, who you are with and where you have been. People cheer you on from lifts, people ask if you are all right if you fall and everyone looks out for the kids while on the runs. If you don’t ski, you can generally find a complete stranger that is willing to have a chat to you, my sister spent hours talking to a stranger once while waiting for us to get back from skiing!
Can be challenging but always fun!
Yes being at the snow can be challenging, even of you are not skiing / snowboarding. It can be very cold, you could get caught in a snow storm and you could have to walk a long way with the kids and gear while this is all going on! But if you take it as it comes, don’t sweat the small stuff, keep warm, don’t push yourself or your kids limits and just enjoy it for what it is then you will have fun…. believe me!
Snow trips are a family tradition!
My trips to the snow date back before kids and through two marriages. We go nearly every year and very rarely go with anybody else so it has become a family tradition, one that we treasure. We have memories that date back years, ones that make us laugh and ones that we talk about continuously. There is barely any memories that make us sad, the snow for us is our happy pace!
So there it is… why we love our snow trips. This year we are grabbing ourselves some epic passes from Perisher, so are planning on plenty of trips this year! Stay tuned!
Have you ever visited or plan on visiting the snow?
Do you love it or its not for you?
Safe Travels!
Kerrie
We took our kids to the snow at Perisher one year. It was out of this world beautiful. Our Son and Daughter took to it easily, although Kids Club have the best ski instructors and they stay with them all day every day, so I’m not surprised they progressed well. I on the other hand am shockingly bad. Our (now grown) son now goes to Japan on Skiing holidays so our one snow holiday made an impression on him. Our daughter says it is too cold!
Oh I wish I did! I love everything about it on paper, but my body hates the cold and I just close down despite dressing properly. Sadly I also get vertigo – so I’m kind of hopeless on the slopes! I love your photos! x
I’ve only tried skiing once and it was a disaster. I had no idea what to expect and was particularly bad at it. My friend and I were with the kids group and I just didn’t enjoy it at all. We’d booked into a whole day but I gave up at lunch and went back to our accommodation!
I love winter though and that trip (to NZ in winter 1999) was the only time I’ve seen snow! #teamlovinlife
