We were looking for a quick camping trip for the weekend, one that was near water, resonably priced and not too far from home. Mungo Brush Campground in the Myall Lakes National Park ticked all the boxes, so we loaded up the car on Sat morning and drove the hour and a bit from home.
The are two parts of the campground…the ever popular lakeside, North end and the surrounded by bush, South end. This visit we found a campsite down the South end, the North can quickly book out and this weekend was no different. It was no problem though, in fact it turned out great as we found ourselves with a large space all to ourselves!
Both ends are separated by a picnic/ bbq area, extra parking and a boat ramp. This space got quiet busy during Sunday with day visitors using the ramp to launch their boats and although their was quiet a few people about it didn’t make a difference on our experience.
Soon enough after arrival and set up we found oursleves down the lake at the designated swimming area, launching our Kayaks. The area to swim is not over huge but it does allow safe swimming and paddling for the kids without boats coming into shore. The water this visit was a bit murky (due to heavy rain the week before) but this did not stop the kids and myself from cooling off…. and it was the perfect place for the kids to work on their kayaking skills and it wasn’t long till they were paddling off on adventures around the shoreline.
Right near the North End camp is a rain forest bush walk that runs for about 1km that is nice to walk along an cool off under the palms, and on the South end the is the Tamboi walking track if you are keen for a wander.
We took a walk across the road to the bush track that leads to the beach. The track is sandy and is a couple of hundred meters long leading up over a sand dune before desending down to the water. It is unpatrolled, and apparently is prone to rips.. so a walk for us was enough.
The campsite has so much to offer but we really just enjoyed hanging out down at the waters edge, swimming, kayaking and just chilling out and watching an amazing sunset! That was a perfect weekend for us!
