I seriously cannot get enough of the Blue Mountains, NSW, Australia. the fresh air, the challenging hiking trails and the absolutely stunning views draw me back time and time again.
This visit I was so lucky to be invited to view the Sculptures at Scenic World. In its 8th year, the exhibition grows more and more in popularity and in 2019 there are 25 exhibits displayed along the boardwalk that weaves its way through the lush rainforest.
Now I can’t get enough of Scenic World, I have been visiting since I was a child (many many years ago!) and I just love the attractions they have there. The Scenic Railway, Cableway and Skyway are an awesome way to spend a day up at the Blue Mountains…add in the bonus option of an art exhibition by local, national and international artists and a day out at Scenic World just even gets better!
Note: I was gifted a pass, but all opinions are my own!
This trip was a solo trip for me, so I took my time to experience the whole exhibit, slowly wandering along the boardwalk and stopping to appreciate the art works.
Here my top 5 favourite exhibits;
I loved how this piece illuminated from within the natural environment. It was the first piece of work that I saw as I strolled down the boardwalk and it caught my eye long before I found myself standing in front of it.
At first I was unsure what this art work was about, until I read the description plague. This artwork is a De -threaded, recycled T- Shirt and not only demonstrates how much material is used in a single piece of clothing but also makes you rethink our love of fast fashion.
This optical instillation gave me an interesting way of viewing the surrounding environment. My perception was changed looking through the perspex panels and the way they reflected the light onto the boardwalk added to the experience.
These used drums that once held and transported oil have been transformed by the artist with cut out motifs to become beautiful pieces of art. I couldn’t help but imagine how they would look with fire glowing within.
This photo I took from within the art piece. This exhibit was the most thought provoking piece for me as it was inspired by the resourcefulness of our most vulnerable people in our community and it encourages us to question our need to consume while celebrating the displaced, broken and somewhat forgotten. The audio that accompanies the piece just adds to the experience.
While I took many photos and loved so many of the art works I just wanted to show you a glimpse of the 25 exhibits… because I highly encourage you to get to the Blue Mountains to experience it for yourself!
