Fun at Aqua Park Darwin

Want to find the best place to cool off in Darwin?

There is a couple of things you need to know about Darwin. Firstly its hot and humid.. and secondly there is only a few safe spots you can cool off because the beaches are home to all sorts of creatures that can hurt you including crocodiles!

Most people who head to Darwin make a bee line to the Waterfront where there is places to eat and drink, a wave pool and a secure and safe lagoon to swim and it is here that you will find the Aqua Park Darwin.

We drove into Darwin even before we had set up camp, to discover what the capital city of the Northern Territory had to offer. It was hot and humid and we all needed to cool off after the long drive so we made our way to the waterfront looking for the oasis we were all looking for.

As we made our way around the waterfront, past the wave pool, the aqua park with its multitude of inflatables caught our eye. The kids gave me the ‘pleading eyes” and I’m sure they thought this was what got them across the line in convincing me to spend our money on this experience but to be honest I was already getting the credit card ready because It looked like so. much fun!

There was no doubting that I was going to join them. It looked like so much fun and even though in the back of my mind I was wondering if I was too uncoordinated and was going to end up rolling around like a beached whale, I wasn’t going to miss out. Before long, I had signed our waivers, chosen our pdf’s and jumped in the water ready for our safety briefing.

Joined by a group of 10 year olds we bobbed up and down in the shallow waters of the lagoon while we were explained the rules before suddenly a call from the lifeguard to begin, had us all swimming frantically towards the inflatables like we were in a race for a million dollars! It was at this point the laughter began and it didn’t stop till our 50 min session was finished!

With one entrance to the inflatables it was a scramble to get up and on top of the obstacle course. Balancing was a challenge at first as we made our way along, I found myself shifting my weight as I ran (lets be honest I dont think I was moving that fast!) following my mini ninjas who seemed to have no trouble at all negotiating the course and soon enough they lead me to the tower in which the aim was to jump off the edge. We clambered up to the top where all looked at each other, the children’s gusto had quickly faded, wondering who was going to take the leap of faith first. I offered myself up for the task and leaped off without my thought, each of my offspring quickly following. It was so much fun and was the first time of many jumps that we undertook that session.

There was so much to explore on the course, some tested our abilities and fears but the most fun and popular with everyone there was the jumpy pillow. A task that took team work, one person sat at the end of the half deflated pillow while others jumped on the other end. Now let me tell you, this was not as easy as it looked well not for me anyway! While trying to position yourself right on the end of the pillow, you would find yourself slipping off the edge or my crew who were jumping in order to project me into the air would not jump in the spot that was needed so I would find myself kinda falling, kinda rolling off the end… it wasn’t pretty that’s for sure! Either way it was lots of fun trying and we were rewared with a few very high projections which made us cheer along with the bystanders waiting for their turn.

Just before I was completely worn out, and wasn’t going to be able to swim back to shore, the lifeguard called time, and it was all over. 1 hour (10 mins briefing and 50 mins on the course) was perfect enough to explore the course from top to bottom numerous times even when there was a party in attendance at the same time. I was so glad that we had discovered Aqua Park Darwin!
