Wild Life Sydney Zoo! 3

Recently the Wildlife Sydney Zoo had a new arrival – an endangered Goodfellows Tree Kangaroo names Kofi! He has started to settle in after arriving from Victoria and we were so lucky to be invited to say hello to him and the other amazing Australian animals that they have in residence!

Note: We were gifted entry passes to visit…but regardless all opinions are my own.

We have never been to this zoo so when we were invited we were very excited to see what they had on offer.

Firstly because Wild Life Sydney Zoo is situated smack bang in the middle of darling Harbour in Sydney, it is easy to get to by public transport. We caught the train to Town Hall and then, after a lovely stroll through the Queen Victoria Building, headed down towards Darling Harbour and were on Wild Life Sydneys door step in 5 mins.

Upon arriving we were greeted by a staff member who checked that we had prebooked our tickets. This is a requirement to managed how many people are visiting and in line with their Covid requirements. Staff were also wearing masks and there was plenty of hand sanitising stations around to use, my son and I also wore masks so we felt very safe during our visit.

We were primarly there to see Kofi and as soon a we entered we were greeted by him. Blue eyed and shy he spent his time positioned high in his tree house looking down on us, not too keen to come out in the drizzling rain, but he was very inquisitive, watching us as we walked along the path in front of him. Two passionate keepers informed us about Kofi’s species, how sadly due to hunting and habit loss they are endangered but with programs like theirs they are trying to save them and hopefully in a little while they can start a breeding program at the zoo! Interesting though, Kofi’s favourite treat is boiled egg – this treat has helped him settle well into his environment.

Apart from the amazing Kofi, Wild Life Sydney has many more animals including being home of the “Aussie Top 5”!. The site itself is organised into areas named aptly for the animals they have housed there. Kangaroo walkabout, Kakadu gorge, Wallaby cliffs, Devils den, Nightfall, Daintree Rainforest and Gumtree Valley all are beautifully set out and the path guarantees that you don’t miss out on anything or have to back track.

Our favourites sites were definitely the Kangaroo Walkabout and Kakadu Gorge. In Kangaroo Walkabout you have the opportunity to walk among kangaroo’s and a friendly Emu! The kangaroo’s do have an area to chill out and on the day we visited that were quiet happy to hang out in the shade, but the emu was very friendly having planted themselves right in the middle of the path! Probably the closest I have got to an Emu without some kinda barrier between us! In the Kakadu Gorge area we were treated to views of a huge crocodile! We could view him from above as well as below from a space that went under the water! Pretty cool to see him glide on by so close to us!

Wild Life Sydney Zoo was a lovely way to experience some Aussie animals, especially for visitors in Sydney who might not have much time to spend. My biggest tip would be to combine with visits to other Merlin attractions in Sydney ( I wore about our visit to Sea Life Sydney here ) and save on entry price ( there is a buy 3 get one free deal atm) even better if you are travelling in Australia / New Zealand you could purchase a Merlin Annual Pass and get 12 months of unlimited visits to top attractions in New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria and Auckland.

What: Wild Life Sydney Zoo

Where: Darling Harbour, Sydney, Australia

When: Thursdays to Mondays 10am to 4pm

How Much: $36.80 Adult, $26.40 Child – as I have said previously definitely look into combining with passes for other attractions or purchase an annual pass.

Need to know: Make sure you prebook you tickets online before your visit, it doesn’t take a lot of time to see all the animals – we were there for about 1 and half hours, Wild Life Sydney does offer meet and greet opportunities and while you can still get an up and personal meeting and pic with a Koala ( extra cost) the other opportunities aren’t available at the moment, the site is accessible to prams and wheelchairs with ramps / lifts to everywhere and wide paths, while keepers talks are now recorded they are very informative and there is plenty of keepers around ready to have a chat and share their knowledge, there is a cafe on site if you need to purchase food or drinks – but as always we brought our own lunch and enjoyed the views of Darling Harbour while we ate!

Have you ever been to Wild Life Sydney?

What did you think?

Safe Travels
