The food!
I love the food of Melbourne! The cafes, restaurants and pubs all offer delicious meals and some that you find down the laneways are quiet quirky. The Queen Victoria Markets are also an amazing place to visit if you love fresh food, with beautiful fruit and veg, meats, cheeses and breads you can’t go wrong with a visit. We grabbed some supplies from there for a picnic lunch before heading across the road to enjoy it!
The skybus!
Shuttles from airports to accommodation can sometimes be a hassle or just really really expensive. Melbourne airport offers a shuttle bus called Skybus that takes you to Southern Cross station and from there you can either organise another shuttle (included in the price) to your hotel or jump on a tram. It cheap, $19 each way, it’s convenient, arrives every 10mins, and the best thing…. it has free wifi!
The laneways!
The laneways of Melbourne offer an insight into the street art scene of the city. Years ago people started panting on the walls on the lanes, and its has continued ever since. The main draw card is Hosier lane, but you will find street art throughout the cities laneways, so keep your eyes peeled as you walk along.
Easy to Navigate!
I find Melbourne the easiest city to find your way around. The streets all run parallel in blocks with some laneways connecting them. If you have a map and are prepared to walk you will be able to find any place you are looking for. After a while you will find that you don’t even need the map!
Art and Architecture!
Every where you look around the city there is colour and art works. I don’t know anything about architecture but just looking around I can appreciate the colour and styles of the buildings, it’s makes it pleasant to be in the city. The arts works are on every corner, mall and walkway in fact you might find that there is a line up to take a photo with it!
Free trams! (Yes this is number 6, I had trouble cutting it down!)
The trams within the city boundaries are free! No need for a travel card (myki) just jump on and off. The map we had listed where the trams ran and what number route they were, and at most of the stops there is a board which tell you how long to the next one will arrive. Easy to use and the drivers are helpful if you have any questions!
There’s my top 5 (6!) reasons I love Melbourne!
Hope they inspire you to go see it for yourself!

I totally agree, I have family in Melbourne and love visiting every time. Also, the coffee is a big drawcard for me!
It’s a great place to visit!! Don’t drink coffee but they did have amazing chai lattes!
I don’t know Melbourne particularly well but have had a hell-ish trip to the airport to catch a plane once that cost an absolute fortune in a cab! (Next time I planned ahead and took a bus!) I really must allocate some time to exploring it properly some time.
It really is an amazing place! And yes cabs cost a fortune!
I’ve been to Melbourne three times as an adult and it was all for blogging things! I loved that I could walk everywhere and not get lost. I enjoyed the laneways and the differences to Sydney but Sydney still wins for me…Thanks for linking up for #lifethisweek Denyse
I don’t think I’ve ever got lost either.. so easy to navigate!
I’ve been a Melbournian all my life and love my city!
So you should! It’s awesome!
I love city markets, so much hussle and bussle, and amazing produce!
It’s been way too long since I’ve been in Melbourne!
I would definitely do my shop at the queen vic markets if I lived there, it is amazing!
I love Melbourne too. It was fantastic to visit. The free transport, trams, made it an easy city to get around. The wide roads compared to Sydney make the centre of town open and not claustrophobic. Might have to mave down there.
Take me with you!
Glad you like my hometown Kerrie! We are living in London for the moment but not a day goes past when I dont think about my Melbs and its awesome lifestyle and coffee!! Our Saturday morning visits to the Queen Vic Market are one of the things I miss the most
