Its funny how you can spend most of your life being so close to somewhere and not know it existed.
I can honestly say that I cannot remember ever visiting Lake Parramatta, even though I lived about 10 mins away up till I turned 22, and my mother, who I visit regularly, still lives around the corner from here!
After seeing other people, visitors to the area, on social media talking about it, it thought it was about time I went to check it out for myself.
I wasn’t disappointed, with 75 hectares of native bush that houses plenty of native wildlife, it was like an oasis in the middle of the bustling suburbia of Sydney.
Where: Lake Parramatta Reserve, entry is through Lackey st North Parramatta, NSW, Australia.
How Much?: FREE!!! except for boat hire.
Need to know: free BBQ’s, playground, there is a cafe onsite, varying levels of bushwalks take you around the lake, you can swim in the designated area, parking is limited, and if you want to become involved in bushcare in the area there is plenty of opportunity to do so.
I will return, now I know where it is!, to walk the 4.20km bushwalk and paddle down to the end of the lake.
Have you been to Lake Parramatta?
Have you lived close to somewhere but never visited?

What a beautiful place! I already saw some of these pics on your IG and was astonished by them!
It was a bit of a surprise to discover this place so close to were I grew up!!!
I love the little red boat! Beautiful!
Thanks Britany, it definitely caught my eye!
That lake is beautiful! I love finding hidden treasures like that where I live.
It funny how something so close to home you can miss, isn’t it!
What a beautiful hidden jem. We have so many undiscovered places to find around here. I usually look on social media too lol! Those statues are awesome! Glad you found this place!
Thank you Kim!Social media is often a source of inspiration!
Oh! You went! I’m so glad you liked it…Adventure Spaniel can’t wait to go back…
Yes! You were one of my inspirations to get there and check it out! Thanks!
Beautiful pictures and it looks so tranquil.
I’ve recently moved and am surprised at how nice the beach is where I’ve moved to. I assumed there was no decent beach here but had never been this far out of the main-hub. It’s weird that we miss stuff on our doorstep!
Sometimes we do miss what is right there under our noses!
So I lived within half an hour’s drive of Parramatta for most of my life and have never been to Parramatta River. That’s a bit lame of me. But thanks for all the photos, they’re the next best thing.
I lived basically 10 mins away for half my life and I often visit my mum who still lives in the area and had never been until that day!!!
Huh. With all my trips to Sydney I did not know Parramatta had this type of recreational area. That’s cool!
I know! Its weird how something can have been there for years and you never know about it!
