Camping at Munmorah State Conservation area: A review 2

One of our favourite places to get away for the weekend is Munmorah State Conservation area. It is close to home for us and is an area that has everything we love including bushwalks and beaches!

Munmorah has two camping areas but our favourite is Freemans camp ground. It has plenty of space for your tent (or caravan) and when we turned up the last time most spots had new fake grass squares to  pitch the tent, which makes camping so much cleaner! The large, grassy campground is surrounded by bushland which has a variety of wildlife including friendly local bush turkeys. Just near the entrance of the campground there is a trail, in which a short walk down leads to the beautiful Birdie beach, great for a stroll along at sunset. The bathrooms have flush able toilets and cold water showers while the cooking area has plenty of free undercover gas barbecues to cook up dinner. Fresh water is readily available at Freemans campground and there is some outdoor sinks to wash up in.

The favourite thing for the kids to do at ANY campground is to ride their bikes and kick the ball, and the Freemans Campground at Munmorah allows them to do both. Smooth roads that are not busy with cars and a large grass areas means that the kids can play all day along. The kids also love the beach both in Winter and Summer. While Birdie beach is in walking distance, our favourite beach in the State Conservation area is Frazer Beach. Its a smaller more sheltered beach and although it is only patrolled during Christmas and Easter, it is relatively safe for the kids to take a dip and has some awesome rocks to explore.

Throughout the area there is some bushwalks including the Palms Walking track and Moonnee beach trail. We have walked the Palms track, a short circuit walk that good for kids and at the end there is a picnic area to stop and have a barbecue. In fact in is a great walk to escape the heat as it weaves under cabbage tree palms.

Camping in Munmorah State Conservation area, is a nice blend between Caravan park camping and total bush camping and I can see why it is very popular!

Where: Munmorah State Conservation Area, NSW, Australia. Blue Wren Drive, Freemans New South Wales 2259

How Much: Entry to the Park is $8 per day, Camping $34 for two adults and $ 8.50 per child per night.

Need to know: Bookings can be made online but it closes a week before your dates… don’t worry though, the park is on a first come first served basis after and this, check on the board what spaces are available and you can pay at the entry gates or when the rangers come around in the morning. The far left hand side of Bridie beach is unclad… it is very clearly signposted and doesn’t impact on the rest of the beach, the main roads in the park and camping area are sealed with some areas being dirt.

What is your favourite camping area and why?

Safe Travels

Kerrie

It sure is a wonderful part of Australia we live in. I have only seen the beaches from the top where that amazing area with the blue water is – Snapper Point. Been a while since I went there though. Thank you for linking up for #lifethisweek 42/52. Next week: Meditation. Yay or Nay.
