Sometimes I wonder why I blog… 22

Sometimes I wonder why I even attempt this travel blog thing. I struggle to put words down, often writing sentences that make no sense. My spelling and grammar is atrocious ( thank god for spell check because I can’t spell atrocious!) and my typing is not much better. It often takes me days to get the words down, edit and publish a blog post that sometimes nobody reads and I have so many ideas floating around in my head, but getting them down on the page can often be a chore, a task, something I try to avoid…just like I avoid housework. So why? Why do I bother…

The answer is easy it is to inspire…. to inspire everyone (especially mothers) to get out there and enjoy travelling with their kids. Too many times over the years I have been told by people, generally complete strangers, that they couldn’t do what I am doing? My answer.. why not?  Why cant you make time with your family the most important thing in your life? Why can’t you save money to have that dream trip? Why can’t you make lasting memories with the people you love? Why cant you make family travel, (even if it is only 15 minutes away from your house) a priority? Seriously being told that they can’t do it is so frustrating to me!!

I know that not everyone wants to travel, its not something that everyone has an interest in, I get that… actually I don’t… but each to their own! But if you want to do more, see more, travel more then I suppose its YOU who I’m writing for. YOU are the reason why I’m writing, to inspire and to prove to you that YOU CAN DO IT!!!  True you might need to make sacrifices, true you might need to be braver then you ever thought you could be and true you might have to put up with wingey, wining children !!! (travel with kids isn’t always easy!) But I know…no I promise you, that you wont regret it… I for one, don’t want to waste any more of my life watching my kids grow up without spending as much time travelling with them as I can.

So I will continue to plod along on here, attempting to write down all the ideas in an legible way, correcting my many many spelling and grammar mistakes and I definitely will be avoiding the housework more… so that I hopefully inspire at least one person to get out there an explore Australia and the world with their kids.

Safe Travels

Kerrie.

I follow along! Your blog is in my Feedly app so I always see your posts! I think it’s amazing what you’re doing!! I’m a travel dreamer but funnily enough the kids are neither here nor there about it. I know they’ll look back when their older and have great memories and I’m sure it will shape them when they’re grown (even if they don’t know it now!). I also realise that I have my own goals and dreams so have booked my first trip with a girlfriend and have let go of any guilt with that. It doesn’t bother me if you’re not a writer or things aren’t perfect, it just makes you more relatable and real. I’m glad you’re not letting it stop you. I often feel the same way but I think it’s more important to follow our dreams than to worry about if we’re not good enough and keep it all locked away inside. Xoxo

Thank you so much for your kind words.. I love that you are following your own dreams by taking time to go away with your friend! You will have a great time!

What a beautiful family you have! This is such a terrific thing to do, and you are a great inspiration and role model for other mums. Your children will be more courageous, open-minded, and have a better knowledge of the world and its people because of what you are doing. Keep writing!

Thankyou Jo! I can see the impact every time we travel on the children .., my son was so anxious as a younger child and now he is so much more confident in new environments.

I admire your perseverance and “can do” attitude. I totally agree that too many people make excuses not to do things with their lives. Travel is one of the most rewarding things you can do and like you say it can be achieved. You keep going! 🙂 #TeamLovinLife

A few years ago at family Christmas, a young (15ish??) cousin of my husbands was talking about how she loved the baby she babysat and how she wanted kids. The family (who are on the conservative side) started all this “aaaah don’t have kids right now you can’t go to uni you can’t travel” panic/fear mongering.

I got cranky hearing all this and said “Of course you can bleeping travel with kids just look it up on the internet and see how many people do!” (I think they kind of took it as me encouraging teen pregnancy but whatever haha, what’s a good family Christmas without some misinterpretations!?)

So yes, please keep blogging. It’s important!

Haha!! I love this comment! If I was there I would have joined you in the argument!! ( also not condoning teen pregnancy but what will be will be!)

I think we all wonder why we blog sometimes. I know how it feels when you pour your heart and soul into writing a post (not to mention the time involved) and it barely gets read. It can be disheartening. Like you though, at these times, I revisit why I started blogging in the first place and it helps me get my perspective back and my resolve to continue on regardless. As far as travel goes – I do want to travel more so your posts will inspire me for sure even though my kids are all grown up now. #TeamLovinLife

I think there’s still a sense of community around blogging and I know I have people I think of virtual friends, I’ve met blogging.

And I like writing so for me it’s often it’s a combination of the ‘act’ of writing and a keenness to get thoughts out of my head.

And I do like to think our words, pictures and thoughts inspire others!

I have definitely found that the sense of community is strong in the blogging community, and I love the support that we give each other on this crazy blogging journey!

I say blog for as long as you enjoy it. I blog because I love it and it’s my escape but I know if it becomes a chore I’ll stop straight away. I’m glad you’re enjoying your travels, it must be great having so much time with your kids.

Thanks for your words of support Kate! And yes there is nothing I enjoy more then spending time travelling with my Kids!

That’s the best reason. We did a lot with our daughter growing up. Some big trips, lots more weekenders or day trips. Other people used to say stuff like ‘I couldn’t do that – I have too many chores,’ or ‘you work full time – don’t you just want to chill?’ or ‘when do you get your housework done?’ The thing was I did work full-time – which was why it was so important that the time I wasn’t working was being spent doing things with her – not buying stuff, but doing stuff. And yes, very often the housework didn’t get done. The thing is, she’s now 19, we still do things & go places together. She remembers the things we did, but most importantly, it’s taught her more common sense about how to travel. It’s all about the experiences. You’re right – anyone can do it – if they’re prepared to put their excuses to one side and get out there. #TeamLovinLife

Awesome words Joanne! And you are right, you can’t get that time back on your kids childhood, and Who wants to spend that time cleaning the toilet!!

Kerrie, thank you for sharing this post and inspiring me! I hate to travel with or without kids…I am a total homebody and like to have all of my things within an arm’s reach all the time! But I often do feel bad that we don’t explore more places together as a family. So, you have inspired me. And I am thankful for that! Keep writing and sharing your travel experiences, please!

Thankyou so much for your kind words! Just getting out of the house to explore somewhere new close to home is just as amazing as travelling to the other side of the world!
