The other day I realised how grateful I am for the opportunity’s I have had to travel here in Australia and globally since becoming a single mum of five, 7 years ago. It also made me reflect on my favourite places I have seen during this time…

So here it is, my five favourite places I have traveled to so far…

Cradle Mountain, Tasmania, Australia.

My first big road trip with all five kids was to the beautiful Tasmania. The highlight of that trip was visiting Cradle Mountain National Park, the beautiful surrounds, challenging bush walks and gorgeous views make it a must see while in Tasmania. Upon seeing the great rock of Cradle mountain and the beautiful blue water of Dove Lake for the first time I must admit I shed a tear, I was so happy and overwhelmed to be there. We spent five nights camping here and I could have spent longer I enjoyed it so much, the beauty and rawness of nature in this area of the world is stunning. I have plans to go back, it is always on my mind, to walk the Overland Trek in a couple of years with whichever of my crew is keen to tackle it with me! Also check out this post on Cradle Mountain.

Venice, Italy

No trip to Italy could be complete without travelling to Venice. The alley ways, bridges and canals that weave their way around this historic city are nothing but enchanting! We loved just making our way on foot to wherever we fancied, if fact my favourite thing to do in Venice was to find some solace from the crowds by ducking into a church or finding a quiet space like a park to sit and watch the world go by. Venice is also the place where we had the most amazing Gelato and Gnocchi and Lasange!!! Check out this link to see more of Venice!

Where we stayed: Hotel Boscolo Bellini

Lake Lousie, Alberta, Canada

Lake Louise is on nearly every tour of Canada’s itinerary for a reason… it will take your breath away. We visited during winter so the lake was completely frozen over, you could ice skate or play ice hockey on it, and it looked beautiful! I can imagine how gorgeous it would be in summer! The lake is surrounded by wild forest and large cliffs that slope down to the waters edge. Taking a horse and sled ride around the edge of the lake really showcased its beauty even further. The ski field is close by as well! We were so lucky to get a great deal on our accommodation at the Fairmont, staying on the prestigious seventh floor, our widow faced straight out to the lake and down the snow covered valley.

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

There is something about the Melbourne vibe that keeps me going back for more. Melbourne is an easy city to explore, whether it is on foot or via one of the ever present trams and you can find cheap accommodation right in the centre of the city. They have plenty of spots to shop, to eat and to be entertained as well as some historical sites to explore and plenty of street art to check out!. The Markets are also a great place to pick up some yummy food! Melbourne is a great place for a weekend retreat or a longer stay, I love it so much that i have visited three times in recent years! Miyajima Island, Japan

This island is just of the coast of Hiroshima and has so much natural beauty as well as historical significance to Japan. Staying here over night is one of my travelling highlights, watching the sun go down and walking around the island at night, when all the tourist had gone, is something I will never forget. The trick is to venture up into the mountains, following the tracks that take you up through the forest and getting away from the foreshore where everyone crowds around the local deer and takes photos of the famous Itskushima Shrine . Its up there that you experience the wonder of natural Japan, and its where the locals go to stretch their legs!

Where we stayed: Iwaso Ryokan 

So there’s my “Top Five” places that I have traveled to so far!!! To be honest that was a tricky one!! I might have to do another “Top Five” because I have loved so many of the places I have traveled too!
