Kids recommend: Skiing in New Zealand 6

Once a month I am asking the kids what there favourite traveling experiences  have been so far.

This month I asked Ivy (6 years old).

What is one of the experiences you have loved so far?

I loved skiing in New Zealand! It was so cool!

Why should others go?

Everyone should go cause because it’s fun, and you get to see Kia’s! (the bird)

Our family is big ski enthusiasts, in fact all the kids have been skiing from quiet young. The majority of our skiing has been done in Australia, and while we love our local ski fields, we all felt that a change of scenery was in store. So last year we decided to head over the ditch to New Zealand.

Everything is conveniently located in the town of Queenstown so as soon as we arrived we headed to the NZ ski centre to exchange our prepaid voucher for our lift passes and organise ski school and bus transfers. We had chosen to ski at The Remarkables and Coronet peak, both are owned by the same company ( NZ ski) and both offer a shuttle bus, at an extra cost, up to their ski feilds.

Skiing in NZ has its differences compared to Aus. Firstly the roads to the fields, especially The Remarkables, are crazy!!! The road was gravel and had so many twists and turns with the sides of the raod dropping steeply down!  I quickly become very grateful for the drivers that got us up the mountain safely so that I didnt have to drive up myself!

Secondly the mountains are so much higher than at home, which not only means more snow , but it actually gave the kids a little altitude sickness on the first day.

And lastly the runs are different, they are longer, they are harder and there is no trees!!!!

We really enjoyed skiing in NZ, the prices are comparable if not cheaper then Australia, the people are friendly and having Queenstown as a base for skiing and any many other experiences is a bonus!

Need to know: keep an eye out on the NZ ski website and social media for any deals they have coming up to snag yourself a bargain on lift passes, each ski resort has lockers which is so convenient, the shuttle buses are so worth the money, both resorts have ski hire on site but check out in town for price comparisons and lift passes are interchangeable between resorts.

How much: Prices on lift passes vary depending on when you go, how many days you are going to ski and if you happen to catch a sale…. check out the NZ ski website for more info.

Where we stayed: Pinewood lodge Queenstown

Have you skied in New Zealand?

Which resort did you enjoy?

Safe travels
